GoFreddies FAQ Page

On the previous version of the GoFreddies.com website we had a listing of frequently asked questions that I thought might be good to get back online.  These are questions both new and old that I have received that might help the newcomers and those looking to find out more.

Who is GoFreddies affiliated with? GoFreddies.com is an independent media portal that was started by Jason Bostic, a 1996 graduate of Fredericktown High School.  We are not affiliated with the Mount Vernon News or the Knox County Citizen even though work may be submitted to them.  The Fredericktown Athletic Boosters, Fredericktown Music Boosters, coaching staff, and many school officials are aware of the website and its purpose within the community, but we are not affiliated with the school system.

Why not just submit it into the newspapers instead? Newspapers typically do not have the room for the number of events that are held by a single school during a weeks time period.  While some of our work may be submitted, typically it is cut down, or left on a editing table.  Chances are if its not in the paper it didn’t make that cut.

Print media has been a dying breed and all across the United States, newspapers both large and small are closing their doors, cutting hours, or cutting editions.  By utilizing a website we can provide you digital media, images, audio, video, and up-to-date information within seconds, not hours or days.

You attend so many events, why don’t all of them appear in the newspaper? I began addressing this in the previous question, but it is one of the MOST frequently asked questions that I get.  I try to attend as many events as I can, getting as many photos and information as possible, but newspapers don’t always have room for what I have.  This single question is one of the BIGGEST reasons for creating GoFreddies.com!  Our athletics, your kids are important, and the involvement that they have within this community should not go unnoticed.  We have virtually an unlimited amount of space through our website for posting the local sports.  Don’t see a sport or an event that we should know about?  SEND IT IN!

Why didn’t this photo, event, sport, or article make it in to XYZ newspaper? We submit articles and photos to local newspapers, but we don’t choose what goes in or how it appears.

Why do you do this? Why not do a project such as this for your hometown and community, what better way to give back?  I saw a need several years ago as our athletics programs continued to build and be successful that there was little promotion.  The school website has an athletics calendar, but no mention of the success of these programs.  Newspapers were cutting back coverage, so I felt that it needed to get out there and let the region, students, athletes, friends, and family see what Fredericktown is about.

Why do you charge for photos and not give them all away? Each photo even though it is digital costs money to make.  Costs of storage, equipment, printing when needed, and travel all are factors that weigh in.  I make the costs of the photos reasonable and far less than you would be charged by other media and newspapers.  With that said, the cost of the equipment required to take these photos is not inexpensive and has taken several years to build the toolbox from which myself and other photographers work with.

GoFreddies does give plenty away throughout the school year, help other media, assist the schools, and help the FHS cheerleaders with senior scrapbooks.  We do plenty of philanthropy and help out where we can behind the scenes.

What about advertising? We have worked to keep GoFreddies.com clear of pop-up advertising and advertising that could potentially take people to offensive websites or subject you to a variety of issues.  As for advertising on the GoFreddies.com website, we are in the process of making that available to businesses and organizations in the area.  We wanted to make sure we could make our product (the website) work well and get the hits we knew it could.  When ad plans become available, the cost will be very reasonable to keep costs low and bring you plenty of visitors.
